UK and Ireland Round: All the winning designs (coming soon...)

Winners of the UK & Ireland round of the 2003 Design Against Fur competition accepted their awards from Tony Banks MP at a champagne reception at the Regent Street offices of London advertising agency banc.

More than 100 students from 13 colleges entered the UK and Irish leg of the event and, worldwide, more than 500 designs were entered. The awards took place during Student Fashion Week (3-5 June) and at a time when the fur trade is making strenuous efforts to get fashion students to use fur.

The UK and Ireland round of the competition was organised by Fur Free Alliance affiliate, Respect for Animals. Winners of the North American, European and UK & Ireland rounds will now go forward to an International Final to be judged in Paris in October.

Mark Glover of Respect for Animals says: “We have been thrilled with the response we have received to the Design Against Fur competition – the quality of the entries was fantastic… The fur trade is an appallingly cruel industry and the students’ posters reflected this suffering in many ways. We are extremely concerned that the fur trade is using its vast resources to buy its way back into public acceptability. The fact is that it is a morally bankrupt industry and more fur means more cruelty. We believe that this competition is a positive compassionate step towards ending the suffering.”
