“In order to create a clear, universal message about the cruelty associated with the fur industry, I chose to design a simple image consisting of a fox hanging from a red clothes hanger. The red hanger symbolizes mankind's role when it comes to the farming, trapping, hunting and killing of animals for fur. The poster was designed to emphasize this idea while trying to keep in mind a simple, cost effective message. With this design and $100,000, I believe my idea for the campaign can be achieved.”

2nd Prize – Johna Caggiano – Parsons School of Design, NY

“I didn’t have the intention to use foxes; I had the intention to use a group of animals looking at you almost like they’re models, to go with the whole fashion theme. I had three or four images, and basically the whole class unanimously voted for the foxes. Foxes really get your heart… I feel that many in my class were already turned off by fur, and the ones that weren’t really learned. One boy in my class had a concept that I really loved. He found out that it took 42 foxes to make a fur coat. And that was his message: It took 42 foxes to make this fur coat.”

3rd Prize – Christine Coscia – Fashion Institute of Technology, NY

“Class members helped each other with the assignment… I already knew a lot about fur. When I was 13, I decided not to eat meat, and that’s actually the reason that I’m studying what I’m studying right now. A couple of people in the class already knew about the fur issue. But the majority of them, I don’t think they knew what was behind it.”
