BELGIUM
GAIA strives for recognition of the rights of sentient animals, such as the right to well being, the right to live in harmony with their own nature, and the right to physical and mental integrity. It is wrong, in GAIA's view, to make vulnerable animals suffer and to kill them, particularly when this is not necessary for human survival. Since animals cannot defend themselves effectively against the abuse of their vulnerability or stand up for their own rights, GAIA is their advocate. The Belgian animal rights organisation GAIA has 20000 members.
